What We Do

DCS Ambassadors are upper-year undergraduate computer science students who are here to:

  • Help you connect with department/on-campus resources
  • Share their personal experiences navigating the CS program, job finding, and more!
  • Connect with current and potential CS students at DCS and UofT events

Info

The content featured on this website, including blogs and guides, is a reflection of the personal experiences of current students in the Computer Science program. FAQ

Nope! Resume reviews are drop in so feel free to come in at any time that fits your schedule - no prior notice needed! Some times can be busier than others, however, so you may need to wait for your turn depending on the day.

Make sure to check your email regularly. The CS undergrad office sends emails about what’s going on in the CS community and how you can get involved. Also keep an eye out on the CS Undergrads Quercus page for upcoming events in case you missed them in your email.

Applications open just before the start of each academic year. Check back for details!

Student Tips

Here are some tips from our ambassadors! Keep an eye out for more tips like these in your weekly DCS newsletters.

One of the best resume tips I received was to list courses in a way that is intuitive to recruiters. For example, instead of writing “Foundations of Computer Science I” for CSC110, you could write “Python Programming and Foundational CS Theories.” This way, recruiters can immediately understand what you learned without needing to be familiar with UofT’s course naming system.

Not sure how to build a strong, lasting network? Just remember the 3 C’s: Curiosity, Consistency, and Credibility. Curiosity: Take a genuine interest in others. Ask thoughtful questions and listen actively.Consistency: Be present regularly—whether it’s showing up to events or following up with contacts. Reliability builds trust. Credibility: Be yourself. Authenticity goes a long way—don’t try to be someone you’re not.

Profs’ and TAs’ office hours are great—even when you don’t have specific course-related questions. They are a great resource for you whether you are looking for academic or career advice!

If you struggle to start your assignments on time, try setting a 5-minute timer and telling yourself you only need to work for those 5 minutes. At best, you’ll get into the flow and continue working and at worst, you’ve still completed 5 minutes of progress!

Strategic thinking is rare - especially in technical roles. Don’t just focus on how to do something; ask why it matters. Before every task, clarify the context, objective, and impact. When you understand how your work drives decisions or outcomes, you move from being a doer to being a problem-solver with leadership potential. That shift in mindset is what makes people remember you, in turn getting you a return offer.
